George Ezra - Wanted On Voyage | Album Reviews

After dropping his hit UK single, "Budapest," George Ezra released his album, Wanted on Voyage on January 27th in the United States. As his first full length release, Wanted On Voyage dropped on June 30th, 2014, and has been on the UK top ten chart since then. Ezra is even garnering the attention of several big-name stars, like Ian McKellen, who was featured in his music video, “Listen to the Man.” It's not just this kind of "celebrity endorsement" that makes George Ezra intriguing; just get a load of his voice: it's deep and husky enough to make his listeners surprised that he is merely 21.

Below, you can find my favorites on this album.

"Blame it on Me" -- "Blame it on Me" is like Gillette as far as opening tracks go: "the best a man can get." It is catchy enough to make me excited to listen to the rest of the album. The track is a little bit repetitive, but not to the point of annoyance, just to the point of it getting stuck in your head all day long (which isn't a bad thing, as far as I'm concerned). Its "semi-live feel" is something for other artists to aspire to.

"Cassy O'" -- This song was my first love on the album, and I don't care who knows it. I think that this song in particular shows off Ezra's unique vocal abilities. The chorus is probably the catchiest on the album (sorry "Blame it on Me"). The song is also clever, which definitely gives it brownie points (just watch the music video).

"Leaving it up to You" -- Basically, the vibes on this song are vibes that I really like; it's acoustic and anthem-y and just about everything that I love about a song in general. This might not be my absolute favorite track on the album, but it's pretty dang close.

"Song 6" -- This song is definitely the most lyrically captivating, especially through the lyrics "since you're gone, I've been watching paint dry." Although the chorus is slightly repetitive, the song makes for it with its catchy guitar riff and lyrics like "everybody's chasing a beauty they don't have, and I'm chasing you."

"Over the Creek" -- The only way that I can describe this song is as a hidden gem. I almost missed how lovely this song was upon my first listen to the album, but after the second time around, I came to my senses. Although the guitar part is quite similar to Ezra's other songs, at least in my opinion, the song is unique in and of itself through the melody and the various happenings in the background (like shakers and tambourines and the prominence of the bass).
